Alyce Yang (b. 2001, North Carolina) is an artist based in Los Angeles. Working across film, photography, and sculpture, Yang brings her family’s history through China’s revolution and subsequent socio-political reforms into dialogue with the profound sense of place, layered contradictions, and rich oral traditions of the American South. Through the replication of objects, reenactment of narratives, and the logic of documentary, her work combines history, biography, and myth, occupying the space between truth and fabrication. With particular attention to labor, language, education, and family relationships, Yang aims to construct nuanced and poetic images of everyday life.
Yang attended the University of Virginia, where she earned a B.A. in Global Studies and Studio Art with highest distinction. She is the founder of Gelatin Film Festival, a program dedicated to screening short films on celluloid in the greater Charlottesville area.
